Chapel of Outre-l'ève

At the entrance to the village, protecting its stone houses, stands the chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin, which offers its bright white facade adorned with delicate painted figures.
The Madonna and Child and Saints Rocco and Nicholas (left), Grato and Anthony (right) are depicted in the panel drawn above the entrance, made by Canavese painter Antonio Sogno in the last quarter of the 19th century.
However, the building dates back to the previous century. Work was completed in early 1728, and the chapel could be blessed on May 20 of that year.
It was short-lived, however: some 20 years later it was already in very poor condition due to the instability of the ground on which it stood. The villagers decided to rebuild it not far away on adjoining but safe land and, having obtained bishop's permission, used the stones from the old building to finish the new one more quickly.
Pastor Barthélemy Dalbard was then able to bless the new chapel on June 12, 1756, and celebrate the first mass there. Text taken from the volume "Bordon R. Treasures of Faith in Champorcher"
