Parish Church of St. George

Of very ancient origin, the Church of Hône, dedicated to St. George, appears for the first time in documents in 1176 among the parish churches that belonged to the bishop.
It was rebuilt in the early decades of the 18th century. The high altar was installed in the new building and blessed in 1722 (but further work was carried out a few years later, in 1724, by Gaspare Serra, a sculptor from Tollegno, Biella). The Gilardi brothers, who carried out other similar works in the Champorcher Valley, created the statues on the triumphal beam in 1742.
In 1833, the church was almost completely rebuilt, at least as far as the lower part was concerned, by master builder Giuseppe Lancia from Boccioleto, in Valsesia, based on a design by a military engineer named Servetti. In 1897, the interior was beautifully frescoed by the famous painters from Verrès, Alessandro and Augusto Artari.
The parish museum houses a valuable bas-relief depicting St. George, the princess and the dragon, dating back to the 15th century, and on the wall behind it, another bas-relief of the Madonna della Misericordia from the 16th century, possibly from the chapel of La Ruine, which was destroyed by a flood in the 17th century.
