Bard Fortress

The Fortress of Bard, which has remained virtually intact since its construction, represents one of the best examples of an early 19th-century barrage fortress. The fortress consists of three main bodies of buildings with a total of 283 rooms. The Opera Ferdinando is in the shape of a pincer within which the Museum of Fortifications and Frontiers is located.
The Opera Mortai, located behind it, and the adjoining Polveriera house the rooms used for educational workshops and are also used for temporary exhibitions. At the peak of the relief, the most imposing of the three works is formed by a wall on which all the buildings rest and which encloses within it the large quadrangular courtyard of the Piazza d'Armi, surrounded by a wide arcade.
The second floor of the Opera houses the Museum of the Alps.
On the first floor, along the Deambulatorio that faces the large Piazza d'Armi, are spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions (Cannoniere, Cantine, Corpo di Guardia). Inside the Opera Carlo Alberto are also the Prigioni, 24 detention cells arranged along four sections.
