Hemp - Cooperative "Lou Dzeut"

Wool and hemp are the raw materials, produced and processed in-house, from which mountain communities obtained textile fibres to make clothing, trousseaus and work cloths, according to their needs and requirements. From hemp, widely cultivated near watercourses in the Aosta Valley and throughout the Alps, a sturdy and resistant yarn was obtained after a series of processes (harvesting, maceration, barking, combing, spinning). Alps, a series of processes (harvesting, maceration, debarking, combing, spinning) produced a sturdy, wear-resistant yarn which, depending on its fineness or coarseness, was woven to make the linen and clothing necessary for daily life and work.
In carrying out their high-quality, precision work, the embroiderers and seamstresses draw on the vast collection of pieces that made up the trousseau of families in a bygone era, when the practicality, sturdiness and understated elegance of the garments and the skill with which they were made still fascinate us today.
